Burton Creek State Park offers some of the best, if not the best, orienteering terrain yet mapped in California. Here are some examples of what to expect the last two days of the Sierra 2000 O-Fest, August 5 and 6. (Control points shown are for illustration only)

1. Fast forest, scattered boulders

2. Rough Open

3. Most of the area is flatish. Though there are some large hills, there is very little contour detail.

4. Visibility in the forest can average 25-50 m making for challenging navigation.

5. Lone tree mapped with green X

6. Undergrowth, difficult to run. (Not much of this)

7. Pit

8. Small clearings are often indistinct.
